My Direct Express Card Expired

If your direct express card expired and you are wondering what to do next, no need to panic. First, 60 days before the “valid thru” date on the front of your card, you were supposed to have received a new card and since 2015, they are now mailing cards with the new chip in them, making them even more secure. So, if your card has expired and you did not receive a replacement card in the mail, make sure Direct Express has your most recent mailing address. You should call customer service to find out if they mailed you a card and where it was mailed to. Call Customer Service at the number below:

—     Customer Service: 1-888-741-1115

—     Hearing impaired: 1-866-569-0447

—     International: 1-765-778-6290 (Collect)

Customer Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you are not sure what address they have on file for you, it is a good idea to call customer service and confirm your mailing address so that your replacement card will be mailed to the right place. If they mailed you a card and you did not receive it and your current card has expired, then you have to call them and have them cancel the card that never arrived and issue you a new one.

Remember that they will not issue you a check in the interim since the government stopped issuing checks for social security benefits. You either have to get the deposit on your bank account or the direct express card. For more on this policy, see the video above.
