Stolen Direct Express Social Security Benefits Card

If you have your Social Security Benefits Card (Direct Express Card) stolen or lost and cannot access your social security benefits, follow the instructions below on how to get your existing card canceled and order a replacement card.

Get A Replacement Social Security Benefits Card

The first step you need to take immediately your card is lost or stolen is to call Direct Express Customer Service to inform them about the missing card. They will then go ahead and cancel the card and order a replacement. You need to call them immediately because the longer you wait, the more likely it is that someone could possibly use your card to make unauthorized purchases. Here is the number to call:

Immediately call the Direct Express® card Customer Service Department, at 1 (888) 741-1115 (toll-free).

Note that it may take a bit of effort to get a live customer service person. We have received lots of complaints from people who have lost their cards and been frustrated trying to reach customer service to report the card lost and get a new one. You can read some of those stories in the comments section of this post. You cannot afford to get frustrated by that. Your goal is to reach customer service regardless of how long it takes, because the longer you wait, the more you put your money at risk.

Once you get a representative on the phone, have them cancel your card and order you a new one.

Monitor Your Social Security Benefits Card Account Online

While you wait for your replacement card to arrive, you should monitor your Direct Express Card online to make sure that no one is making unauthorized transactions on your account. That will also confirm that the old card has indeed been canceled. If you notice any fraudulent activity on your account, call customer service again and have them look into the charges. The sooner you report any fraudulent activity on your account, the better chance you have of getting your missing social security benefits card money back.

Your replacement card should come in the mail. If you don’t receive it by the time indicated by customer service, call them again and get a status update.

I don’t understand what’s going on.What should I do.
