To login to your Direct Express debit card account, follow the steps below.
The first step to logging into your Direct Express online account is to visit the Direct Express website. Click here to be taken there.
Once there, you need to select your appropriate card number to be taken to the correct login page.
To complete this step, locate your Direct Express debit card and look at the card number in front of your debit card.
If your Card Number starts with 5332 48 or 5115 63, check the appropriate circle as shown below and follow the instructions.
Note that we have provided login instructions below for both. Scroll down to see the instructions for your specific card number.
If your Card Number starts with 5332 48, you will be taken to a login page that looks like the one below.
Once there, enter your login User ID in the space provided, and hit the “Submit” button as shown in the image below.
The next step is to enter your password on the next page, provided you entered the correct User ID.
Once you enter the correct password, you will be taken to your Direct Express account page where you can:
If you do not remember your User ID, click on the “Forgot User Id” link as shown below.
For Direct Express Card Numbers that start with 5115 63, check the appropriate box below.
You will be taken to a login page that looks like the one below. Once there, enter your User ID and Password in the appropriate space.
Next, enter the Visual Verification code that appears on your screen.
You must enter the correct Visual Verification code in order to proceed.
Next, click on “Login”.
You will then be taken to your Direct Express account page where you can:
Once you are logged into your account, you will be able to, manage your profile, set up alerts and notifications, and activate your card, among the other online account functions listed above.
However, If you do not remember your password, click on the “Forgot Your Password” link as shown below.
You will be taken to a page like the one below where you will have to enter your User ID and the Visual Verification code shown on your screen to retrieve your password.
However, If you do not remember your User ID, click on the “Forgot Your User ID” link as shown below.
You will then be asked to enter your Direct Express card number and the Visual Verification code shown on your screen to retrieve your User ID.
There are three ways to activate your Direct Express debit card.
The first option to activate your card is by calling the Direct Express Contact Number as shown below:
Call Direct Express Customer Service toll-free phone number at 1-888-741-1115 (for card numbers starting with 5332 48) or 1-866-606-3311 (for card numbers starting with 5115 63).
Customer Service can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For the Hearing impaired: call the Direct Express TTY phone number at 1-866-569-0447 (for card numbers starting with 5332 48) or 1-800-325-0778 (for card numbers starting with 5115 63).
International Callers should contact Direct Express by collect call at 1-765-778-6290 (for card numbers starting with 5332 48) or 1-661-6006-3311 (for card numbers starting with 5115 63).
Once you call, you will be required to enter the card number printed on the front of your card, your date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security number.
The second option for activating your card is to go online.
To do so, visit the Direct Express website and locate the “Activate/Register Card” section as shown below.
Next, enter your card information and click the “activate/register” button for further instructions.
The third option for activating your card is via the Direct Express mobile application.
Once you download the app, click on “Register” to activate your card.

To speak to a live person at Direct Express customer service, there are a few steps you have to follow. We will walk you through the process of getting in touch with a live customer service representative below.
Call Direct Express Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-741-1115 (available 24/7)
For English, (press 1), for Spanish (Press 2), for all other languages (press 3)
If you have your Direct Express card with you, then enter your 16-digit debit card number.
After entering your card number, a Direct Express customer service agent will answer your call shortly.
You may be put on a brief hold if all agents are currently assisting other customers when you call.
If you do not have your card with you, then (Press 2) to access your account using your Social Security number.
If you do not have your card number or Social Security number, here is what you need to do to talk to a live person:
Wait while the auto-attendant goes through the messages below a few times, then you will be transferred automatically to a customer service representative:
After the system goes through the above message three or four times, you will be transferred automatically to a customer service representative.
Other callers have reported longer hold times.
If you do not have time to wait on hold, you may have to try calling at different times of the day to see if you are able to talk to a representative sooner.
There are four different options available to you to check the balance on your Direct Express Debit Card: We have listed them below:
The first option for checking your Direct Express card balance is to use the mobile application. The mobile app is available for both iPhones and Android devices.
You can download the Direct Express app at the Apple Appstore or on Android’s Google Play store.
Once you download the application, you can view your account balance, request free deposit notifications, and get low-balance alerts.
You can also check your Direct Express card balance online. To log in, follow the instructions above, including how to retrieve your User ID and password.
Once you log in, you can check your balance, review transaction history, and view past statements.
The third option for checking your card balance is to call the Direct Express card Customer Service Department. They’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Lastly, you can check your balance on your card at any ATM that displays the MasterCard acceptance mark.

Here are the most frequently asked Direct Express Debit Card Questions:
Anyone who receives Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits can get the Direct Express Debit Card.
To sign up, visit www.usdirectexpress.com or call 877-212-9991.
Your Social Security or government benefits payment is automatically deposited to your Direct Express account each month on the due date.
You can access your benefits at any ATM or make purchases at any retailer that accepts MasterCard debit cards.
Unfortunately, you cannot add your own money to the Direct Express debit card other than the government benefit that is deposited onto the card.
Unlike other prepaid debit cards, you cannot link a bank account to your Direct Express card or add cash to your card at a retail store.
Only the government can transfer funds to the Direct Express card.
Direct Express doesn’t make routing or account numbers available for cardholders.
That is because no other funds can be added to the Direct Express debit card, other than federal benefits payments.
As a result, there is no need to provide cardholders with their account numbers or routing number because you cannot use them to add money to your card.
Here’s how you can pay bills online with your Direct Express debit card.
First, check with the company you are trying to pay for and see what information they need. You can do this by reviewing the bill pay section on the company’s website.
Note that you can pay bills online with your Direct Express card as long as the company processes them like a credit card transaction.
However, if a routing number is needed to process to set up the online bill pay, then you will not be able to do that with your Direct Express card.
