One of the features we like about the Direct Express Card is the ease with which you can have a lost or stolen card replaced. Direct Express lost card replacement can be done in one easy step. But you will need to provide some information to help customer service to properly identify you. This is important because while you are eager to get a replacement card sent to you right away, customer service must be certain that the cardholder is requesting the replacement card and not a scammer trying to illegally gain access to your account. It is therefore important to follow the steps required to get your Direct Express card replacement.

As soon as you find out that your Direct Express Card is lost or stolen, immediately call the Direct Express card Customer Service Department, at 1 (888) 741-1115 (toll-free). If you are calling from outside the U.S, call 1-765-778-6290 (Collect). A customer service representative will assist you and a new card will be sent to you.

It is important that you call right away because if someone is illegally using your card, calling right away protects you from losing funds deducted from your card by an unauthorized user. This also protects your Social Security benefits.

There is no fee charged for the first card replacement within a year. Once you use your free card replacement for the year, you will be charged $4 for any additional card replacement request.

NOTE: If you need your replacement card as soon as possible, direct express may charge you a fee to ship your card via Fedex or UPS (with a tracking code emailed to you).

There are steps you can take to keep your card and account safe from authorized use. Because most of the users of Direct Express cards are seniors, scammers have actively been trying to defraud cardholders – thinking that seniors are an easy target. But you can fight back. You should take steps to protect your card and personal information at all times. Also, note that Direct Express will never contact you by phone, email, or text message to ask you for your card number, PIN or security code. If you have responded to any communication asking you to provide any card or personal information, please inform Direct Express customer service immediately by calling the number on the back of your card or 1 (888) 741-1115 (toll-free).

    This is the worst Debit card company! I ordered a replacement for my lost card and three weeks later I still have not received it. I finally got through to the operator today and had to pay $13.95 to receive my new card by UPS, but I still have to wait three more days to receive it. At least i now have a tracking number that UPS emailed to me. This company Sucks a real Big one!

    Been trying to report my card missing for 3 days. Trying to cancel it and get a new one before someone finds it and steals money out of my account but guess what… Direct Express will not pick up the phone. Every time they put me through customer service what’s a call back later because call volumes are heavy… what am I going to do when someone uses my card and text my funds?
